Section A.
This section contains 10 questions, which usually follow the following format.

(a) 3/4 questions on Algebra,

Rules for Algebra

(Q1 is always an inequality)

(b) 2 questions on Arithmetic.

(c) One question on each of the following (i) Logs indices,
(ii) volumes/area/
(iii) functions and relations
(iv) Binary operations
(v) square roots, squares, reciprocals.

Section B

Q2 will be a question based on Volumes and area and Arithmetic usually Simple interest or % the question is often divided into 3 parts

(a) (10), (b) (20) and (c) (20) marks

Q3 a question on Algebra expect factors, quadratic equations, And simultaneous equations

Q4 Statistics: Expect all of the following mean, mode, Bar charts, Pi Charts

Q5 (i) Graph of a quadratic function
(ii) So questions based on the Graph

Q6 Algebra Sets, This question has varied in composition but nearly always includes solving a quadratic equation. .

Syllabus B

Layout of the Exam
The exam consists of two papers, each paper divided into two sections A and B

Section A (100 marks) This consists of 10 short Questions each worth 10 marks, you must attempt all questions in section A marks lost here cannot be made up elsewhere.

Section B (200 marks) This consists of 5 questions you are required to attempt at least 4 questions. If you attempt all 5 questions you will receive the marks from your best 4 answers.

The pass mark on each paper is 120 marks!

The Marking Scheme Section A
Each short question in Section A is marked as follows, 10 marks for the correct answer, if the answer is incorrect. The question is marked using a" Slips and Blunders method ".

Slips
A slip is a minor arithmetical error and it will cost you 1 mark (Slip = - 1). An example of a slip is say (100 -35 = 75).

Blunders
Blunders are mathematical errors, these will cost you three marks (Blunders = - 3). An example of a blunder is getting incorrect factors of a quadratic or a misplaced decimal point at the end of multiplication /division.

Attempt Marks (4 marks)
Any step in the right direction of the answer merits an attempt. This is the minimum mark you can get for a particular question (provided you have taken a step in the right direction!)

The Marking Scheme Section B
Most of the questions are divided in reality into five parts each part being worth 10 marks. The exception to this are questions 3 and 4(geometry) on Paper 2. Which in most years consist of 3 parts. The same marking system is used in Section B as in section A ie"slips, blunders, attempts"

Section A
This consists of 10 questions, which follow the following pattern.
(6) Questions on Geometry,
1 questions on Coordinate geometry,
1 question on trigonometry (Always 1x) Modern geometry. It is essential that you attempt every question in Section A.

Q1 smaple

Note an attempt in a geometry question can be as little as marking in a new bit of information on the given diagram, like for example adding an extra angle or marking in equal sides.

Section B

Q2 will be divided into two parts
(i) a question on money, %, compound interest, (ii) Area of a circle or rectangle.

Q3 A question based on a parallelogram, name equal sides or angles

(Q4) a question based on a circle, name equal angles , Right angles \

(Q5) Coordinate Geometry. Normally 5 parts, know how to use your formulae.

(Q6) Trigonometry; usually divided into 3 parts marked 10,20,20, the right-angled triangle, looking up table very important
