KNOW THE MODES

The texts you have chosen for your Comparative course must be studied under the Modes prescribed for this year.

These modes are

1 Themes and issues

2.Literary Genre

3.Cultural Context

On the Examination Paper you will be asked to compare the way your texts work in the light of these modes.

So when you are rereading your comparative texts you should do so in the light of these modes. Areas such as Character Development,

Relationships between characters need not concern you.

Your job as a reader is to note similarities and differences between the texts and to be able to discuss them using examples from the texts.

The best way of doing this and so making the task easier is to focus on KEY MOMENTS each text and limit your discussion to them.

>Take Literary Genre, for example;>

In the Sample Paper one of the Comparative  questions on this area read as follows,

All readers enjoy a story that is well told."

Taking the above statement as your theme, write an essay in which you compare the ways in which the texts in your comparative study told their stories.
